Balancing work and life!
...we like Workabooks because they are high quality...
Angela Briggs, Head Teacher
Watlington Primary School, Oxfordshire
After a recent outstanding Ofsted report,Angela Briggs, headteacher at Watlington Primary School in Oxfordshire, admits that she’s proud of what she and her team have achieved, “It’s taken a lot of hard work, but we’re now getting there. I have the team I want who can deliver what I want.”
Angela is very aware that her team have worked hard and put in long hours to get these results. She also points out that they are very conscientious and, when it came to homework, didn’t want to settle simply for handing out worksheets. They wanted something that would complement the good work they were doing in the classroom and that would be meaningful for the children.
“We investigated online homework, which the children were very keen on, but parents were less happy. There was also the issue of discriminating against those who did not have computers at home.”
When Angela came across Workabooks, she realised they ticked a lot of their boxes. “Our parents have high expectations so the Workabooks are a good way of involving them in their child’s education. The children like the tasks and the little ‘rewards’ for completing them, and we like Workabooks because they are high quality – and decent homework motivates the children.”
Angela feels Workabooks have also improved everyone’s work/life balance: they’ve lightened the workload for staff by streamlining the setting and marking of homework whilst being effective for the children. “I think children of this age should be out riding their bikes, not doing homework all evening, so I wanted to be sure that when we did give them homework it was something of value that would help them make progress.”
“Excellent, very clear. Much easier to keep organised and check up on. Feedback section very beneficial.”
